When you touch the metal sensors on the lip gloss case, a very small amount of electricity (so small that you won't even feel it) flows through your fingers, the battery, and the recorder in a circular path -- a complete circuit. Then, when you press the lip gloss' roller ball to your lips, you turn on a switch that starts the recording. The recorder captures the vibrations made by human vocal cords and converts those vibrations into an electrical signal. When you play back the recording, the reverse happens -- the electrical signal is converted to a vibration, which travels to our ears.
